_bm3 Q: How can I create versions of my backups when I'm not using ZIP compression?

A: You could create a profile for each day. First, create your profile and copy it to make two new profiles. Rename these three profiles, e.g. Monday Backup, Wednesday Backup, and Friday Backup. Edit each profile so they point to a different destination, e.g. the Monday one could point to a Monday sub-directory. Then just schedule the Monday Backup to run on a Monday, etc.

For SyncBack you can use the new variables to keep versions. See this page for more information.

Q: I want the source to be my compressed ZIP file, not the destination. How do I do that?

A: The source & destination labels are purely for the benefit of the user. In reality they are just two locations that have equal status. How they are used depends upon the settings. To treat your FTP server or ZIP archive as the source, just change the profiles settings on the Advanced tab. For example, if you want to do a backup from a ZIP file or FTP server, modify your profile, go to the Advanced tab and select: 'Destination overwrites source always', 'Do nothing, skip the file', and 'Copy file to source'.

_bm3 Q: What happens if I change my compression password?

A: Most people believe that the password for a ZIP archive file applies to all the files in the archive. This is not correct. Each file in the archive can have it's own password. Therefore, if you change your compression password then any new or updated files will use the new password, but unchanged files will keep the old password. This can cause confusion when you try to retrieve the files from the ZIP file. For this reason it is not recommended that you change your compression password, and if you do, it would be wise to change the destination directory or delete the files in the destination directory before proceeding.
